Landing in Detroit after
smuggling himself from the Gaza Strip, a young man still struggling with his
young brothers death in a Gaza air-strike, finds himself thrust into the life
of an American meth addict. The two form
an unlikely bond, as the circumstances behind Hassan's visit brings them closer
together; Hassan wanting the same U.S. company that manufactured the bomb that
took his brothers life, to unknowingly make a piece for his Qassam Rockets back
home in Gaza City. Hassan stays with his blue-collar uncle (Aziz), a U.S.
transplant who came after the Arab-Israeli wars of the early 80's. Aziz is
proud of the American dream he and his family have built for themselves, and is
excited Hassan gets to reconnect with his sister (Nadia), who has been in the
care of Aziz for most of her life. Chris is introduced to the family and tries
to break ties with his drug dealing 'girlfriend', a domineering street thug
(Tina). He is persuaded to clean up his act during the holy month of Ramadan
and Nadia takes a liking to him as the two slowly form a relationship
unbeknownst to Hassan. When Chris' sobriety is threatened, Hassan takes extreme
measures to ensure his success, ultimately making a decision that will haunt
him. When the secret relationship of Chris and Nadia comes to light, as well as
the true reason for Hassan's journey to the U.S., everyone is tested, and no
one will be unchanged.
